Culver Academy (IN) rising senior attackman Riley Thompson has made a commitment to the admissions process to play Division I lacrosse at Princeton University.

Riley Thompson ledger:

Riley Thompson, #24

High School: Culver Academy, Culver, Indiana

Graduation Year: 2014

Position: Attack, Left-handed

College Choice: Princeton University

Club Affiliations: Edge Lacrosse, Orangeville Northmen

Major lacrosse honors, All-Star teams, Camps, Showcases: Ontario Box lacrosse midget Provincial Champions (2011), Maverick Showtime All-Star team, North American Lacrosse Invitational (NALI) Champion (2012, 2013), NALI All-Tournament team (2012), NALI Tournament Offensive MVP (2012)

Academic Honors: Blue Key Society Member, Gold A (3.7 GPA and no grades below B+)

What will you major in/study? Undecided

Why did you choose Princeton? “An accumulation of different reasons lead me to choose Princeton as my future school. Of course the school’s incredible history and reputation put it at the top of my list before I even stepped foot on campus. Princeton’s academic status was also very attractive, knowing that I would be going to school with like-minded students who, like myself, are looking to push themselves in the classroom and strive for success.

“This competitive edge also carries over to lacrosse, as Princeton continues to be a contender in the Ivy League as well as nationally. Also having spoken to the coaches and meeting the players has strengthened my decision to go to Princeton even further.”

What are your thoughts on this past season and next season? “This year was a tremendous success at Culver. Our coach Jon Posner set the goals very high, wanting to be a top 5 ranked team in the country. Being in Indiana has made it difficult to get national recognition, but with an 18-2 season and with wins over Episcopal, Landon, the Hill, Brother Rice, and a close game with Boys’ Latin pushed us to #5 in Inside Lacrosse’s National High School Rankings.

“Our success was greatly contributed to by our dedicated coach as well as our seniors. Personally, I am looking to continue our success on our trips out east where we get to play the best teams in the country and establish our name as a not only a top team in the Midwest, but in the country.

“Our team’s outlook for next season will definitely be to continue our success as well as fill the gaps that have been left by our seniors from last season.”

Thank You: “I have to thank my High School coach, Jon Posner, for everything he has done for me on and off the field. He has not only been helping me become a D1 caliber player, but he also opened the door for me by talking to many coaches and giving me numerous options for after high school.

“I also want to thank Edge Lacrosse, the first club team I played on that gave me a taste of field lacrosse against Americans, as I have played box lacrosse in Canada until I played Edge.

“Lastly I would like to thank my family for all of the tremendous support they have provided. I would not find myself where I am today without my parents pushing me in school and more so on the lacrosse field. They have allowed me to see my full potential as a player, a student, and as a person.”

BOYDS, Md. – The following are 10 players that shined in boys’ action Tuesday at the brine National Lacrosse Classic at the Maryland Soccerplex.

Jonathan Thelen, Team Florida (IMG Academy) 2014, Attack, the 6’2 and 178lb attackman has quickness and moves his feet towards the cage well. Thelen has a beautiful low to high shot. The rising senior ripped a goal vs. Virginia and has great lax I.Q. Has Division I talent.

Chad Patterson, Team Maryland (Westminster), 2015, Defense,
the rising Westminster junior has sensational footwork on the defensive end. Patterson checks well and is always checking on the attackers hands. Clears the ball well up field.

Peter Desimone, Team New England North (LaSalle Academy, RI), 2014, Attack, Desimone is a quick lefty at 6’0. The rising senior distributes the ball well to other attackman. Has good awareness of what’s happening on the lacrosse field. Desimone hails from Rhode Island state champion LaSalle Academy.

Kane Wolfer, Team Illinois (Rockford), 2014, Attack, Wolfer makes nifty dodges and shoots the ball well on cage. The rising senior moves his feet well and has decent dodges towards goal from X. Superb LAX I.Q.

Chris Lievois, Team Michigan (Brother Rice), 2014, Goalie, The Brother Rice rising senior goalie is talkative and has quick hands, two things coaches’ love about a goalie. Lievois made some incredible saves against the Rochester team.

Jake Sproule, Team Rochester (Penfield), 2014, Midfield, The Penfield rising senior middie has good conditioning, he moves up and down the field without much noticed labor. Sproule is aggressive on both ends of the field, has a bit of a mean streak, which is not bad. Isn’t selfish with the ball and has a laser shot.

John Neil, Team Long Island South (Port Washington), 2015, Defense, Neil held his own against some tough Team Maryland attackman. The Port Washington rising junior has good footwork and slides well.

Nicholas Hatzipetrakos (Syosset), Team Long Island North, 2015, Midfield,
The Syosset rising junior may be 5’7 but the kid has a monster game. Hatzipetrakos had three goals in the 2015-16 All Star Game. He moves well has great hands and is alert at all times. Has a real passion for the game.

Steven Gottlieb, Team New Jersey South (Penn Charter, PA), 2014, Defense,
Gottlieb stands at 6’1 and uses his size to his advantage by delivering powerful checks and he moves his feet well. The Penn Charter rising senior made the 2014 All-Star team and had two caused turnovers for the White team.

Justin Dennis, Team Tennessee (McCallie), 2014, Midfield, Dennis has a nice game, he moves well up and down the field. Has tremendous stick work. The McCallie rising senior has a great lax IQ.

From Press Releases

The Wasatch Lacrosse Club (Salt Lake City, Utah) is traveling to Philadelphia to stay at Chestnut Hill College while preparing for the Tri-State Nationals (N.J.) next weekend in Princeton.

This team of 19 players from 13 different high schools across the state of Utah has 17 2014s and two 2015s on its roster (see below) and will play elite club teams from Philadelphia and Baltimore before the Tri-State tourney.

Players are flying in Sunday where they will be greeted with their first Philly cheesesteak from Pat’s or Geno’s (their choice) before staying in the dorms on campus at Chestnut Hill College. Monday the team travels to Baltimore, MD to tour the Johns Hopkins and Loyola University campuses before a scrimmage against Looney’s LC.

A three-day stay in Philadelphia will allow the team to tour local campuses such as Penn, Drexel, Widener, Haverford, Cabrini, Eastern, Villanova and others. Wasatch LC will also play Baggataway LC (Conshohocken, PA), Dukes LC (Wayne, PA) and Chick-Fil-A LC (Rockville, MD) before heading to the Tri-State Tournament.

AccessLacrosse (accesslacrosse.com) will provide a live feed Wednesday night when wasatch plays the perennial power Dukes LC.

“This trip has been two years in the making,” said Adam Eddinger, General Manager of Wasatch LC and Chestnut Hill College Assistant Coach. “As a staff we were ready last year, but it was difficult to get players committed to traveling back East.

“We built the trust with a trip to Vegas in fall 2012 and opened the eyes of some parents and players to the recruiting scene trials and tribulations. As a staff, we film and edit highlight reels from our scrimmages and tournament games. Look for some great footage coming from this week.”

Danny and Ricky Larkin, coaches of Wasatch LC, are looking forward to the opportunity.

“We are excited for this opportunity to bring our team – which is made up entirely of players from Utah – to compete against some of the top club programs in the country,” they said in a statement. “All of our players were personally hand-picked so we can showcase the top talent that Utah has to offer.

“This trip will be a great way for our players to get noticed by college coaches who wouldn’t normally come to Utah to recruit. Our club is full of talent ready to play at the college level and we are prepared to help to get Utah more credibility in the lacrosse world.”

Scrimmages in Philly will take place on campus at Chestnut Hill College, 9601 Germantown Ave, Philadelphia, PA 19118 with parking adjacent to the playing field. Wasatch LC scrimmage schedule is as follows:

Tuesday 7/9 – vs Baggataway LC 5:30-7:30pm
Wednesday 7/10 – vs Dukes LC 5:30-7:30pm
Thursday 7/11 – vs Chick-Fil-A LC 6-8pm

Why did you choose the school? “I wanted to go to a school were I felt that I was able to see as much field time as possible, while being a top competitor. FSC has a strong program and will be a tough competitor for the D2 title in the future. The coaches and players were great every time that I visited, and I couldn’t ask for a better environment to excel in academically and athletically.”

How did the 2013 HS season go?
“Coming into this season I knew we had the talent to be a dominant team in Missouri. Although we had a rough start to the beginning of the season, I wasn’t too worried. We just needed to gel together as a team and work together. Once we focused and gelled, we became united in our efforts to reach our goal. We won the state championship due to a true team effort.”

Thank You: “I first tried playing lacrosse my freshman year in high school. If it wasn’t for my friend, Dominic Polizzi, I never would have played lacrosse in the first place. I want to thank Coach Pete Genovese for teaching me to play and to love the game. I want to thank my Varsity coaches – Eddie Condon, Jim Shaw, Mike Donio, who in my sophomore year and beyond, helped me to improve my skills and deepen my love of the game.

“I want to thank my MO 22 coaches – Andy Kay and Mark Seyer, and the MO 22 Club. The opportunities provided from this experience truly helped me to take my game to the next level.

“I want to thank everyone who supported our teams, all four years, whether we were winning, or otherwise.

“Finally I want to thank my parents and my family. They have been supporting me from day one and I know they will continue to support me in the future as I continue to play.”
